#NotesFromTheField: Tamron SP 85mm F/1.8

mainIf you ever catch me with an 85mm lens it’s most likely a Nikon 85mm 1.8D. Everyone needs a good portrait lens. If I ever had to mourn the passing of that lens I would have to consider a replacement. There are lots of lenses to choose from. I tried Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8, it impressed me. At Photo Plus Expo I was introduced to Tamrons 85mm 1.8. It was very interesting as well.

The quick test at PPE

It seems at first to be just a typical lens but the Tamron 85 1.8 seems to be a little more. Tamron has created a seeminly nice lens with it’s current design aesthetic. Even with its vibration compentsation the lens is light comfortable to use. The quick images I got from using the lens at Tamrons booth at Photo Plus Expo showed that the lens had great potential. I did not have to think about using the lens it was intuitive.   The color was good, for a quick use of the lens I was satisfied with my test images (see below). Like their 35mm lens, if I needed to replace my current Nikon version, this would be a strong contender. This is a lens I do want to play with some more.
