It was a beautiful September day. The temperature was just right. I,as good luck would have it, received package in the mail. It was a Vivatar 2x Macro focusing teleconverter. In my day job world we call old, out of date software, legacy software. This is how I will now refer to my used gear from now on. This, this Vivatar 2x Macro focusing teleconverter is legacy gear bought off ebay….
I am doing a coffee shoot. I wanted to test things out with the Nikon 105 2.5 AIs and also test my lighting set up. I have been using the 105 for most of the week now, putting it through its paces. While my lighting was not perfect, the lens worked well. I have a better idea of how I want to handle the shoot. I have a nice list of shots to take and I think I’ll be using multiple lenses on this shoot. Ill also drink a really nice cup of coffee when it’s done.
So… I performed and experiment yesterday. It took a bit of confidence, something I have been working on. I was working with my Nikkor 105 2.5 AIs I put this image out in the ether and exposed it to many people.

Now I did not put out there and say, “This is my latest work praise me praise it, GIVE ME GLORY. I am good I am the GServo” nope I put it out there in all its reality thinking/saying “This image is not perfect, I know I suck, however tell me what you think anyway.” I got some real feedback from “It’s not your best work …. Take it down” to “you did that with that ancient lens … Cool”. All the feedback was great….

Sometimes you just have to take the shot. You must let go of all doubts, concerning your gear. You think your lens is wrong or you don’t have a flash, just let that all go. Forget that the light may be weird. All you have to is compose the image to the best of your gears ability, get the exposure correct, and hit that shutter. The image may not come out perfectly but it’s better than kicking yourself about not taking that shot. When I saw this bee, I was doing some experimental stuff so I was not set up for this shot . I had to live in the moment and get it however. Then the bee was gone.
As a photographer, getting caught in light rain shower is something I have begun to enjoy. It ads drama to what was a boring visual day. This is especially true with my weather sealed D700 and Nikon 40mm DX combo. I only got one shot for the day, but I was pleased with it. A flower with some rain drops is much more interesting to me to one that is dry. Rain drops and flowers go together like peanut butter & ginger jam or bacon and well anything.
